Google Is Slowly Killing Play Music Service, Removes Gift Subscription
It looks like the Google Play Music service is about to be retired, and Google is already taking the first steps toward that goal.
Google Play Music has been around for a long time, much longer than other services from Google. It’s not as successful as other online streaming services, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s going to go under the axe.
But the real reason is that Google is trying really hard to make YouTube much more profitable, and one of the spin-off services is called YouTube Music. It’s already known that YouTube users are online mainly to listen to music, so Google figured out that it could make money with a separate, dedicated service.
